Workshops, exhibits and talks

Raising awareness and educating at at conferences and other industry & academic events

Richard van Tol, Thomas Westin, Ian Hamilton and Tara Voelker presenting at GDC 2015

Since the earliest days of the SIG a key member activity has been outreach. Our main outlet is through the GDC round tables that we have run every year since 2004, but we’ve also been spreading awareness and knowledge through the game development and academic communities through talks, panels and workshops at conferences and other events.

A few examples over the years –

  • HCI international 2005 paper presentation
  • GDC 2006 exhibit, talks and Game Accessibility Arcade
  • Develop 2006 workshop & Game Accessibility Arcade
  • E for all 2007 exhibit
  • Austin Game Developers conference 2007
  • Futureplay 2007 workshop
  • GDC 2007 Accessibility Idol workshop
  • Games for Health 2008 talks
  • GDC 2008 Game Accessibility Arcade & poster session
  • Full Sail University 2010 talk
  • Games for Health 2012 White House policy briefing
  • GDC 2015 evening social & panel
  • ICEC 2016 workshop
  • GDC 2016 lunch social
  • Microsoft Ability Summit 2016 panel
  • ArtsIT 2017 dedicated conference track
  • GDC 2019 exhibit

And of course GAconf, the evolution of our regular GDC talks, workshops & social events into a stand-alone dedicated knowledge-sharing and networking event.

These are all examples of official SIG activites – usually multiple members collaborating to run sessions under the banner of the SIG. Members also frequently present on accessibility outside the SIG.

If you’re interested in either of these things we offer some guidance on submitting to and speaking at conferences.
